President
- Exercises general supervision over the affairs of the chapter and administrative council.· Presides at chapter and administrative council meetings.
- Conducts regular meetings of the administrative council (at least three to five meetings per year are recommended)
- Assigns duties to other officers soon after their election.
- Appoints chairs to standing committees and other committees as required to support the goals of the chapter.
- Represents the chapter or designates a representative at local, state, and international meetings such as conferences, seminars, and workshops.
Vice President
- Assumes the duties of the president in the absence or incapacity of the president and performs such other duties as the president or council may assign.
- Works closely with the president and often takes responsibility for special projects that the chapter wants to achieve.
- Responsible for chapter programs.
- Is the successor to the current president in many chapters.
Secretary
- Takes minutes at administrative council and other chapter meetings (or arranges for a substitute).
- Prepares and distributes copies of meeting minutes to officers.
- Prepares correspondence related to chapter business at the direction of the chapter president.
- Maintains records so they are available at any time to the president or the council.
- Stays up to date on and communicates happenings at the Society level to the council (optional).
Treasurer
- Supervises the chapter’s fiscal affairs by preparing an annual financial report for submittal to the STC treasurer.
- Prepares a budget at the beginning of the chapter year with the incoming chapter president (usually during the late summer and early fall).
- Establishes and maintains a checking account for current operations and arranges for signature cards and other documents required by the bank.
- Prepares a monthly report of chapter income and expenditures for review by the chapter president.
Immediate Past President
- Typically serves on the administrative council as an advisor.
- Provides counsel on previous chapter activities. (Often, people who have served in this senior post have a great deal of experience with community affairs.)
- Receives tasks from current chapter president. (Common assignments for this position are management of the Nominating or Bylaws Committees.)
